Walk the Block, Ride Your Bike

Everybody knows why walking and biking is better for you than driving, but we are all really good at ignoring what’s good for us and our planet.

So, let’s remind ourselves with 5 reasons of why we should be walking and biking – and how to enjoy it more.

1. It saves money on gas. Lots of it.
2. It saves the planet. You’d be doing your bit to save the world.
3. It saves on parking. We can all agree that parking in Toronto is almost reason enough.
4. It’s good exercise. The benefits are obvious. Ask your doctor.
5. You’ll get more fresh air. It’s the best kind.

Did you know that 720 King has it’s own bike storage room and shower facilities?

Indeed it does! There is a Bike Storage room in the corridor at the north entrance of the building. A security access card is required to use these facilities, please refer to your Tenant Representative to request access

Walking and biking is fun – and here are some tips for making it even better…

Smart Commute is a program of Metrolinx and the municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. They help anyone who is going from A to B explore and try out smart travel options such as walking, cycling, transit and carpooling. Their goal is to ease gridlock while helping you save time and money.

iCANwalk promotes walking and walk friendly communities across Ontario. The aim is to encourage active transportation – walking, biking, in-line skating, skateboarding – instead of traveling by car, for short trips. Small changes can make a big difference to reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions and create a healthy, active community.

Bike Share Toronto provides Toronto’s residents and visitors with an additional transportation option for getting around town. Bike Share Toronto is available for use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The system includes a fleet of specially designed, heavy-duty, durable bicycles that are locked into a network of docking stations.

CYKL indoor cycling studio at Wellington and Bathurst. CYKL is the first indoor cycling studio in downtown Toronto to make exclusive use of the revolutionary RealRyder™ bikes. Stretching Session Flyer

Breathe Deep and Stretch

While some workplace stress is normal, excessive stress can interfere with your productivity and impact your physical and emotional health. And your ability to deal with it can mean the difference between success or failure.

You can’t control everything in your work environment, but that doesn’t mean you’re powerless—even when you’re stuck in a difficult situation. Finding ways to manage workplace stress isn’t about making huge changes or rethinking career ambitions, but rather about focusing on the one thing that’s always within your control: you.

Whether you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes, there are plenty of ways to take the time you have to breathe deep and stretch. And if you’re leaving your desk for awhile, turn off you monitor and computer to save some energy. Power down to power up!

Ways to Relieve Stress

Get moving

Regular exercise is a powerful stress reliever—even though it may be the last thing you feel like doing. Aerobic exercise—activity that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat—is a hugely effective way to lift your mood, increase energy, sharpen focus, and relax both the mind and body.

Talk to an attentive listener

The other person doesn’t have to “fix” your problems; he or she just has to be a good listener. Simply sharing your feelings with a trusted friend or family member can be very cathartic, even if there’s nothing you can do to alter the stressful situation.

Make food choices that keep you going

Low blood sugar can make you feel anxious and irritable, while eating too much can make you lethargic. Healthy eating can help you get through stressful work days. By eating small but frequent meals, you can help your body maintain an even level of blood sugar, keep your energy up, stay focused, and avoid mood swings.
