Get Behind 720 King West’s 2018 Waste Diversion Goal!

In 2013 The Green Council created The 25% Challenge to increase waste diversion to 75%, which asked for your help to make sure all waste ended up in the right bins. The result: together we increased our recycling to 77% in 2014. The waste audit for 2015 showed we maintained our waste diversion rate. Read more about The 25% Challenge results. Think Before You Trash LogoWhat’s the 2018 Waste Diversion Goal?

Our 2017 waste audit showed 720 King diverted less then a third of its waste from landfill sites. Our goal is to increase waste diversion by 50%. We did it in 2013 and we can do it again!

Why aren’t we diverting more waste?

Items are going into the wrong bins – cans and paper mixed together, food waste tossed in waste bins, and coffee cups not going in their own bin or garbage (take out coffee cups are not paper and cannot be recycled – please do not put them in the paper bins).

People want to do the right thing but figuring out what bins to use can be confusing, particularly because the multi-stream waste diversion program at 720 King is not the same as most municipal programs.

What’s our goal?

720 King is diverting less than 1/3 of its waste from landfill sites. Our goal is to increase that by 50% in four months. We need your help.

How are we going to do this?

When you use the correct bin, you make the difference between sending the waste to landfill or moving waste into productive recycling streams.

Diverting more from landfill starts with knowing what goes where

It’s not like home! It may seem tricky because our multi-stream recycling program is different than the municipal program you use at home.
