On Friday, October 9th, the government announced a new rental subsidy program called the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (“CERS”) that will replace the previous program – Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (“CECRA”) which expired at the end of September.
The new rent subsidy program announced will provide tenants with a rent subsidy up to 65%, as well as an additional 25% in the event of a retail closure by government mandate.
We encourage all tenants to apply, should they qualify, once the full details are released. We are monitoring developments closely and will update you with any new information.
